Breath taking scenery and activities for everyone
The Devon and Cornwall coastline, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor, the Teign Valley all provide fantastic opportunity to see the South West at its best.
Agatha Christie was born in Torquay and famously spent much of her time being inspired by the area for her writing, setting novels at Burgh Island (right), on Dartmoor and at a number of country houses and hotels in the area. Her own country retreat - Greenway at Churston is now owned by the National Trust and is now open to the public after a £4.5 million restoration.
The Eden Project (left) was built in a disused clay mine in Cornwall, transforming it into a rich, global garden where people can learn about nature and get inspiration about the world around them. As an educational charity and social enterprise they put considerable energy into creating unforgettable learning experiences, running transformational social and environmental projects locally and around the world, putting on fantastic arts, theatre and music events. They also conduct valuable research into plants and conservation in the stunning gardens they have created in and around their trademark Biospheres.
Land’s End is one of Britain’s best loved landmarks, famous for its unique location and beautiful scenery, it is the most south westerly point of mainland Britain. It provides opportunities to observe many different types of flora and fauna such as Basking Sharks, Shags and the Cornish Chough. During the spring and summer months the cliffs burst into colour when the gorse and heather flowers bloom. Entrance is free, you only pay to park your car.
Activities such as sailing, surfing, windsurfing, rock climbing, horse riding, hiking and scuba diving are all popular pastimes in the South West and are well catered for, whether you are an old hand, want some local guidance or wish to learn.
